Volunteers are important members of the Piedmont Park community and critical to the success of our park and our programs.  Volunteers make a dramatic difference in Piedmont Park by helping with ongoing restoration and preservation of the park, leading historic park tours, and by supporting the Conservancy’s programs and events.  We invite you to head outside with us and pitch in to enhance and transform Atlanta’s favorite park.

Piedmont Park Volunteer Opportunities

Green Team

Branch out and head outside with us to have some fun while making a dramatic difference in Piedmont Park!  Green Team volunteers sustain and transform Piedmont Park by working together to make the park a more beautiful place.

  • Projects are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 am – 11 am
  • All projects take place outdoors and are based on the current needs of the park
  • Projects include; pruning, weeding, mulching, collecting trash, rooting out invasive species, etc.
  • Age requirement: 14 and up. Volunteers under the age of 16 must have a parent or legal guardian volunteer with them
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must have this waiver signed in advance by their parent or legal guardian
  • For all projects, we have all of the tools, gloves and supplies on hand, making it easier for you
  • We encourage volunteers to bring a refillable water bottle
  • This experience is ideal for a family, individual or group
  • Court-ordered volunteers are accepted. Must be pre-approved by the Conservancy.

Pick Up and Pitch In (Drop-in with RSVP)

A lot goes into maintaining and enhancing Atlanta’s favorite urban green space!  With more than 4 million visitors annually, we need your help to keep Piedmont Park beautiful.  Pitch in this summer by picking up litter in the park.  Grab some gloves, a trash bag, and trash grabber; and head out into the park to for 30 minutes to up to 2 hours to keep the park clean and green this summer.  Every stray straw, plastic bottle, bottle cap, and chip bag collected makes a difference!

  • Wednesdays, September 20 – December 13, 2:00 pm – 5:30 pm
    *Days not available: September 27 and November 22
  • Project takes place outdoors
  • This opportunity is self-guided
  • Age requirement: 5 and up. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent, legal guardian, or adult chaperone volunteer with them
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must have this waiver signed in advance by their parent or legal guardian
  • We have a park map and all of the supplies for this project on hand, making it easier for you
  • We encourage volunteers to bring a refillable water bottle
  • This experience is ideal for a family, individual, or group (no larger than 4 people)
  • This opportunity is not open to court-ordered community service
  • Project not available on October 25

Day in the Dirt (Group Experiences)

Grab your coworkers, school group, or civic group, and come on out to keep Piedmont Park beautiful! Our Day in the Dirt experience provides an extraordinary opportunity for your group to promote community involvement, encourage environmental stewardship, and build teamwork; while making an immediate and tangible impact on the park.

  • Projects can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 am -12 pm or 1-4 pm.
  • All projects take place outdoors and are based on the current needs of the park
  • We always have a running list of projects where volunteers can make a difference.  Typical projects include pruning, spreading mulch, resurfacing the volleyball courts and running track, rooting out invasive species, cleaning up the park by collecting trash, etc.
  • No previous experience is necessary, just a willingness to pitch in, get a little dirty and have some fun making a tangible difference in the park
  • The Conservancy requests a minimum of four weeks
  • We can accommodate groups of 10 – 75+ volunteers
  • For youth groups, we recommend one chaperone per every 10 youth volunteers
  • Age requirement: 13 and up
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver prior to participating in our group service program
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must have this waiver signed in advance by their parent or legal guardian
  • For most projects, we have all of the tools, gloves and supplies on hand, making it easier for you
  • We encourage groups to bring refillable water bottles
  • Day in the Dirt is ideal for corporate, church, community, school, and nonprofit organized groups
  • For groups with 55+ volunteers, while the Conservancy does not require a materials budget, by providing a budget for materials and tool rental (if needed) it enables us to expand the types of park beautification projects we can offer groups with 55-100 volunteers

Green Market

Have fun volunteering while enjoying the fresh air, learning about locally grown produce and listening to live music! Green Market volunteers play an important role in supporting healthy lifestyles and encouraging sustainable communities. Our Green Market encourages sustainable communities in the most basic way – by providing shoppers with direct access to local farmers and merchants.

Green Market Assistants:

  • Saturdays, March 18 – December 2, 2017
  • Volunteer opportunities are Saturdays, 7 am -2 pm
  • Volunteers will primarily assist vendors with unloading their vehicles, general clean-up; market set-up and market break down.  Volunteers may also lend a hand at the Green Market Information booth and our Education Garden.
  • Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with the public
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • This is a rain or shine event, so volunteers must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Age requirement is 18 and up
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Court-ordered volunteers are accepted. Must be pre-approved by the Conservancy.

Green Market Ambassadors

  • Saturdays, March 18 – December 2, 2017
  • Volunteer opportunities are Saturdays, 8:45 am -11 am and 11 am – 1:15 pm
  • Volunteers will primarily serve as market ambassadors by answering park visitor questions, educating park visitors about the Conservancy’s efforts, and informing park visitors know about market programs and tours
  • Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with the public
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
  • This is a rain or shine event, so volunteers must be willing to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Age requirement is 18 and up
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Court-ordered volunteers are not accepted for this opportunity

Tour Docents

Join our dynamic corps of Tour Docents in bringing Piedmont Park’s incredibly rich history to life!  Our History Tours provide both a comprehensive and vivid retelling of the Park’s narrative as well as a new lens from which to examine Atlanta’s history and the Conservancy’s central role in transforming the Park.  Tour Docents lead public and/or custom walking tours throughout the park; enhancing the overall visitor experience by helping visitors learn about Piedmont Park’s history, ecology and design.

  • Passion for Piedmont Park and the history of Atlanta
  • Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with the public
  • Physically able to walk in various types of terrain for 60-90 minutes
  • Be able to work outdoors during all seasons
  • Complete the required training process
  • Be willing to commit to at least one year commitment and to lead1-2 tours per month
  • Be able to communicate through email
  • Age requirement 18 and up

Administrative

Head indoors with us and support the Conservancy’s efforts to enhance and preserve Piedmont Park as a vital urban green space for all Atlantan’s to enjoy.  Administrative volunteers provide support by preparing mailings, filing, and working on special projects.

  • Projects are periodic and are not available on a weekly basis
  • Most projects take place indoors
  • Volunteers should have excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail skills
  • Individuals age 18+ are welcome to volunteer
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Some administrative opportunities require a background check

Special Events

Make an impact on Piedmont Park by lending a hand at our special events.  Special Event volunteers help with a wide variety of events including 5K races, Landmark Luncheon, Party for the Park, Splish Splash Doggie Bash, and Yoga on The Promenade.

All proceeds support the maintenance and enhancement of the Park.

  • Most special event opportunities are offered on weeknights or weekends.
  • Volunteers assist with event set-up, event break-down, way finding, greeting of guests, etc.
  • Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with the public
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Age requirement: varies based on event
  • All volunteers must sign a liability waiver
  • Volunteers under the age of 18 must have this waiver signed in advance by their parent or legal guardian
