Help Piedmont Park Survive the Drought, Donate Today!
Much of Southeastern United States is suffering from an historic drought that has plagued the region for the last couple of years. This holds true for many of the rain-parched areas of Georgia, and especially for Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

The Weather Channel’s Julie Martin reports from Piedmont Park, where the drought has impacted events this year.

Managing the impact of the drought has been one of the toughest challenges the Conservancy has ever had to face. Just this past fall, the Park lost eight large trees due to the drought or drought-related diseases.

And though the area has received some rain of late, forecasters expect the drought to continue, which is bad news for Atlanta and its major water source – Lake Lanier, where water levels are 19-feet below pool and continuing to drop.

This could make for an extremely difficult summer for Atlantans, and Piedmont Park, when coupled with current watering restrictions that limit our ability to sustain plant and tree life.

A gift of $15, $25 or $40 today will help give Piedmont Park’s trees and plant life the care they need right now, and make important improvements so the Park is less vulnerable in the future. DONATE NOW!

•  Special pruning and pest control measures are a must if the trees are to stay healthy.
•  Xeriscaping – a landscaping technique that uses native plants that require very little or no water.
•  Researching and testing organic fertilizers that use absolutely no water at all.

This is the same kind of forward-thinking action that has brought you so many of the improvements you’ve come to love during the 19 years the Conservancy has been the Park’s caretaker:

•  Beautifully maintained green space, new walking paths and a revitalized Active Oval.
•  Updated children’s play areas constructed with durable, recycled materials designed for people of all abilities.
•  Region’s best dog park.
•  Exciting and varied outdoor programs like the Green Market, Saturday Bird Walks and Summer Camp for kids.
•  A LEED certified “green building” program to assure our new facilities are environmentally responsible and sustainable.
