Cotton States and International Exposition, Manufacturers Building - 1895
Historic Park Tours are held every Saturday of the month May through December. Learn about the history of Piedmont Park and get a little exercise, by joining a Piedmont Park Education Docent for a guided walking tour of Piedmont Park.
Tours last 60-90 minutes and cover all phases of the park's development over nearly two centuries. Discover the story and evolution of Piedmont Park’s landscape as it changed from a forest to the Walker farm, to the fairgrounds for the Piedmont Exposition of 1887 and the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895, to the transformation of the fairgrounds into a suburban park, culminating with its current status as Atlanta's premier urban park.
Piedmont Park’s rich history is undeniably intertwined with the development of Atlanta. The story of the Park itself is a microcosm of the history and growth of the city. As such, the Historic Park Tours provide both a comprehensive and vivid retelling of the Park’s narrative as well as a new lens from which to examine Atlanta’s history.
