Tell Us About Your Courtship.
We were introduced by a mutual friend in August 2000. After dating and then breaking up, we gave it another try and quickly decided we wanted to get married. In March 2004, I went back to Houston for a long weekend with my parents. John had been planning for weeks with my parents to surprise me. My mom and I were driving to lunch and she pulled up to the curb of my favorite lake. I hadn’t suspected anything until that moment, and then I saw John waiting for me on a bench in front of the lake with roses. The next evening, my closest friends from high school came over for dinner and we surprised them with the news of our engagement. I especially loved that John included my parents in the proposal and that he remembered that particular lake (out of several lakes in the area) as being one of my favorite places from our visit to Texas in 2002!
Why Did You Want to Get Married at the Clara Meer Dock in Piedmont Park? John grew up in Atlanta and I have lived near downtown Atlanta since I moved here in 1991. When we think of Atlanta, we think of Piedmont Park and the beautiful Midtown skyline. Many of our guests were from out of town, so having our wedding in Piedmont Park was a great way to share one of the things we love about Atlanta with our guests. It was also a convenient location for both our local and out-of-town guests, who walked to the ceremony from their hotel.

Would you recommend the facilities at Piedmont Park?
Definitely. We wanted an outdoor ceremony near downtown Atlanta within walking distance of the reception. The facilities were perfect and created a unique, intimate and relaxed atmosphere for our rehearsal dinner, wedding and reception. And I will never forget seeing John waiting for me as I walked down the stairs to Clara Meer Dock with my father, with the sun setting behind me, and our friend’s trumpet playing echoing throughout the park!
